SBR Chiropractic FAQs
Chiropractic care works because treatment is specifically based on the needs of the individual. No two patients are built the same, so it’s up to the practitioner to carefully assess each patient and tailor their care accordingly. By using a combination of hands-on techniques, such as specific spinal adjustments, manual therapy and low-force intervention, chiropractors offer a drug-free, non-invasive approach to spinal healthcare.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Chiropractic care is a process of repositioning specific joints that have become fixated or misaligned. Skilled practitioners are specifically trained to simply guide your body back to its intended position, therefore the techniques used have a very low risk profile. When compared with more invasive methods of spinal healthcare, chiropractic care poses considerably less risk than surgery and the use of pain medications.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment consists of placing the patient in a specific position, while a precise amount of force is applied in the right direction. The intention is to single out a particular joint that is fixated, “locked up”, or not moving as it should. This can help improve or restore motion to the joint, helping the spine to gradually realign, allowing a more normal range of motion to return to the body.
There are many different ways to adjust a person’s body. Depending on where the problem area resides, the chiropractor’s hands, body or a specially designed instrument delivers a brief and highly-accurate force of motion. Some adjustments can be quick little jolts, while others may require a slower, more constant and indirect type of pressure.
Is there an age limit to chiropractic care?
The great thing about chiropractic care is that it is appropriate for all ages, unlike some of the more invasive forms of spinal healthcare. We have found that more people are turning to chiropractic care as they age, because things tend to hurt more as you get older. Due to the ability to modify our techniques appropriately for each individual, young or old, big or small, chiropractic adjustments can help at any stage in life.
Do the adjustments hurt?
While some adjustments are more dramatic than others, it is rare to have a painful experience with a skillfully trained professional. If any discomfort is felt, it is usually very brief, and you may feel a slight sting. However, because the intention is to return your body to its natural state of alignment, using skill, not force, most people find the adjustment to be an instant relief and quite relaxing.
What are the major benefits to chiropractic care?
Some of the many benefits of chiropractic care include improved performance for physical as well as mental activity, with the ability to decrease anxiety and improve energy. The right kind of adjustment can improve your posture while increasing spinal flexibility and range of motion, ultimately reducing stiffness and pain throughout the entire body.
At Sunrise Body Revival Chiropractic & Massage, we believe chiropractic care should be treated as a preventative and proactive approach to healthcare, meaning, not only should a person seek a chiropractor while experiencing pain, but should also visit routinely in order to maintain proper alignment and an overall state of wellness.
